One of the new minerals from the Kalahari manganese fields

Poldervaartite is a type-locality mineral from the Kalahari manganese mines. This means that it was only found here. It was only reported in 1993, which makes it a relatively new mineral in the mineral world, this also means that it is an unknown mineral. It was discovered at the Wessels mine. At first it was thought to only have occurred once but subsequently 6 occurrences have been documented.

It was named after Arie Poldervaart of Columbia University.

Recently a new find was discovered and the pocket is now mined out.
