Okenite may sometimes be confused with cotton wool by the uninitiated observer.  Okenite is a mineral that has grown within basalt cavities, its crystal filaments are incredibly fine and can be parted or blown to change crystal alignment without any damage. Okenite has two common forms, fibrous masses and the more aesthetic and popular "puffball" appearance. These puffballs are balls of thin, hairlike crystals that look just like fur. However, you don't want to touch it as the crystals are delicate. Okenite forms as clusters in bubbles in volcanic rocks
