It forms shiny black coatings and Trigonal - Hexagonal Scalenohedral H-M Symbol (-3 2/m) Space Group: R3m

Calcite and sometimes malachite

Similar to

Secondary mineral of smaltite

The only cobalt oxide is heterogenite which forms masses up to several kilograms and black coatings on calcite.

 This was a scarce mineral at Tsumeb and was only found at two levels with very few specimens.  It is also found at Zaire as a black coating on malachite. It contains 64.1 % cobalt and 1 % hydrogen and 34.8 % oxygen. The habit can best be described as amorphous - No crystalline form or imitative shape., Globular - Spherical, or nearly so, rounded forms (e.g. wavellite)., Reniform - "Kidney like" in shape (e.g.. hematite)
