Kamotoite has monoclinic crystals. It is a rare mineral that contains Yttrium combined with Uranium. It is a type locality mineral that was named after the area where it was found namely East Kamoto near Kolwezi, Shaba, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At the Kamoto East mine it is found as crustsof elongated bright yellow tablets on uraninite matrix. The tablets can reach 1 cm and are often found in clusters. The mineral is commonly associate with shabbaite-(Nd) and uranophane, less frequently with the rare uranyl and rare earth phosphate franqoisite-(Nd)
