Hedyphane is rare mineral known from several deposits, such as Langban and Franklin, but euhedral crystals are virtually unknown.

The first crystals of hedyphane were reported from 860 meters below surface, as tiny, 1 mm colorless crystals on calcite. In 1994 on the 46 level, a few specimens of tan-colored crystals up to 3 cm long, were discovered. Some crystals crystals show hollow elongated perimorphs after an unknown mineral, probably mimetite. These specimens are the finest known examples of  Hedyphane.
